1. Get Inspired
Gather all your ideas into different mood boards! Do you want a room to be cosy or energetic? Do you want it to be in neutrals or have an accent wall? What style would the room be? You can find inspiration just about everywhere. From your favourite hue, nature, everyday objects and Pinterest. But don’t get overwhelmed! Assemble ideas together and break them down according to the space.

2. Play With Lighting
Did you know that light changes colour? Both artificial light and natural light can change how the paint colour is perceived. According to HouseLogic, “natural light changes throughout the day and is affected by a room’s location. Artificial light changes with the type of bulb you use.”
Try painting squares of paint per room and see how they look like throughout the day. While lighting fixtures are usually placed last in rooms so try placing a desk lamp on the floor to see how the paint reflects the artificial light.

3. Big Picture
Another tip in choosing paint is to always keep the bigger goal in mind. Cohesiveness in design is important when selecting shades. Coordinate paint with your Scandinavian furniture or retro pieces and flooring.
Your furniture can match your wall colour or it can contrast it. Also consider floor furnishings like wood, tiles or carpet which can also add depth to your room due to reflections.
4. Baby Steps
If you’re hesitant to paint your wall turquoise, experiment in a smaller area like a bathroom or powder room. Look at it as a quest and have fun in the process! In this way you won’t feel too bad about changing your mind.

Looking at the colour wheel is a great tool for choosing paint. Complementary colours like blue and orange intensify when used together. There are many colour combinations that you can find pick and you might even be drawn to new ones in the process. Another tip is to ask your local store for paint swatches which can come in thousands of colours.
