Summer may only be one season, but its warm atmosphere and spirit of celebration are always an inspiration to us. With this in mind comes the Endless Summer range, a collection of brand new furniture and homeware pieces, lush florals and vibrant paint tones that are sure to keep the Summer spirit alive long after February ends.
We welcome Fazeek’s unique range of vases and tableware to the RJ Living family, featuring the iconic Wave Coupe Glasses and genius Balance Vases. Vibrant florals from Melbourne based Sour Sunflower encapsulate the Summer spirit, seemingly exploding in every direction with a wondrous range of fresh colours, the perfect accompaniment to vibrant wall colours, and fresh new print arrivals from The Poster Club.
Anchoring the range together are brand new releases from our Melbourne based design team. From the Garner bedroom range, featuring gentle corners and a stunning rattan and Oak combo, to the Sector coffee table with its pared back yet unique profile, these new pieces provide the perfect backdrop for summer florals and colours.
At the core of Endless Summer is the spirit of celebration and kicking off the year in style. The Notch table’s expansive tabletop makes it perfect for dining with friends, its matching bench a comfy and compact solution for entertaining guests. The Vault Bar Cabinet is also sure to be a favourite, featuring a showstopping silhouette and plenty of space for drink mixing.
We chatted to Milly, our Product & Design Manager, and Jess, our Photoshoot Stylist about how Endless Summer came together through product and style.
What was the process behind styling this shoot?
Jess: Firstly, I look at the products that we need to shoot and get a feel for the vibe. From there I create a mood board and refine the colour palette. I then start creating mock-ups in photoshop so I can see how it all works together, making sure it’s always consistent with the established mood. Shoot days themselves are a huge day but always so much fun. We style up the shots based on my mock-ups and then there’s lots of tweaking to make sure the styling looks perfect.
What are some simple ways people can incorporate colour into their homes?
Jess: Using colourful accessories such as cushions, vases, and artwork is a really easy way to incorporate colour into your home. The Poster Club has a great range of prints that are affordable and make a real impact. It is also easy to change up your accessories to give your space a whole new look without the expense of a major renovation.
What’s your favourite part about styling this shoot?
Jess: My favourite part has been how fun and colourful this shoot was. Working with Alyssa from Sour Sunflower to create custom floral arrangements for each look was so fun and took the shoot to the next level.
What would you say is your favourite piece from the Endless Summer Collection?
Jess: My favourite piece would have to be the Garner bed. I absolutely love the texture of the rattan and subtle curve of the headboard. It looks incredible paired with the matching bedside table.
What’s the process of bringing these new furniture pieces to life?
Milly: The overall process is really quite long, it starts months and months before we see it in store. My process is really data driven, we assess trends, what our customers are looking for and what our factories are able to produce the best. From there, I look into rough features I find interesting (so this could be different shapes, new materials, different joinery etc) and build out the design from there. Then, I work directly with our manufacturing teams to ensure the design is viable all the way through to shipment. We’re very hands on from start to finish.
Did you have any inspiration behind this range?
Milly: After what the past few years has brought us, we felt like everyone needs something bright, happy and a bit fun. This range really has two main focuses, bringing people together and also looking into how people’s lives have changed within the home. We’ve released a few new desks that are perfect for working from home. The Hoop desk features two drawers on each side, so it’s perfect for two people to use it at once. We’ve also released the Vault bar cabinet which is very functional but also a fantastic centrepiece for home entertaining and a great place to perfect cocktail making.
What do you do when you’re stuck in a design rut?
Milly: Whenever I’m stuck in a design rut, I need to switch my brain away from that task. So I’ll either move on to something else I’m working on, go grab a coffee or quick walk. I’ve also found that sometimes even just sketching out every idea (even the awful ones) really helps.
What would you say is your favourite piece from the collection?
Milly: My favourite piece from this range would have to be either the Garner nightstand or the Vault bar cabinet. The Garner nightstand has a lot of impact but still looks visually light. The Vault bar cabinet is a piece that just came together really well, it has a lot of function as a storage piece that can just hide everything away, but the slide out tray also makes it great for preparing drinks.
